This procedure must be performed on your main node, and on any network rendering nodes!
Simply copy Shoestring_shaders.dta and Shoestring_shaders.mcx to Eovia\Carrara Studio {3.0 or 4}\Extensions, or to any subdirectory under it. I like to keep my plugins in separate directories to make them easier to locate. So I have a DCG directory, and a Shoestring directory, for instance.
Carrara Studio 5 and above makes a couple of changes- now we copy Shoestring_shaders.dat, Shoestring_shaders.txt and Shoestring_shaders.mcx. Same directory instructions as above.
Render nodes are done just as above, except that the path is Eovia\Carrara Studio {3.0, 4, 5} Render Node\Extensions. You don’t need to put the password in on render nodes.
When you initially use one of the shaders, ie add it to a shader tree, a dialog box will open and ask for your password. To evaluate the software, just hit cancel, or ok. You can even guess at a password if you want. In evaluation mode, a random portion of the object you are shading will be black. Every time you open a file that includes a Shoestring shader, or add one, you will see the dialog. Once you have purchased the plugin, a password will be emailed to you- simply enter it in the box, and two things will happen. The black spots will go away, and the box will stop popping up. There will be a file called Shoestring_shader_password.txt created in your \Extensions directory. If this file is altered or moved, the plugin will ask for the password again! If you leave it alone, everything will be copacetic. ;-)
The shaders are found in the shading room, in the drop down menus- where you pick things like Color, Value, Noise, etc for your various shading channels.
